PUTIN AND UKRAINE'S STOLEN CHILDREN
Artist's comment: "This is not an entertainment video. It is a monumental six-month-long documentary project by BBC director Robin Barnwell, focusing on the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Putin's officials. I was fortunate to participate in this work. The video is intended exclusively for European audiences. I couldn’t watch it without tears. I deeply hope that after viewing it, pressure on the shameless Russian occupiers will intensify. Robin Barnwell's team, along with Maria Lebedeva, Victoria Novikova, Diana Kochkodan, and Yuriy Zadorozhny, visited me twice: at the beginning of creating Margarita’s portrait and at the end. My task was unique and unprecedented for me: to create a portrait of a child who would appear a year and a half older than in the photo provided to me. Margarita is an orphanage child who, unfortunately, is still not in Ukraine. Only 0.05% of the footage captured by the team made it into the final video. Their work is relentless—they move with incredible speed, as if everything is on fire in their hands. Today they’re in Kyiv; tomorrow, in Kherson. And so it goes every day. 😊"

Former military serviceman Vitalii Ruban has been dedicated to art for 12 years. He specializes in creating commissioned portraits and reproductions of famous paintings. Reproducing artworks is a meticulous process that requires true skill and attention to detail. So far, the artist has completed around twenty reproductions.

To understand how Yuliia perceives herself, she was invited to participate in an unusual experiment. Yuliia was in a room with a portrait artist, but the artist was behind a screen and couldn’t see her. The artist had previously seen only a photograph of Yuliia taken ten years ago. His task was to depict how Yuliia had changed over the last decade, relying solely on her words. Oleh also joined the experiment.
